13.5"x20" Graphite 1989

This piece was chosen by Harlan Ellison to be the cover of "Dreams With Sharp Teeth," an omnibus edition collecting three of his previously published volumes of short stories: "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream," "Deathbird Stories," and "Shatterday." Everything you've heard about Harlan is true; he's also a great guy.
(see Dreams With Sharp Teeth for finished cover)

thanks servial; have you read anything by Harlan Ellison?
Isn't he that guy that wrote the paladin story? I remember hearing something about him but I have never read his work...

Your imagination is matched only by your immaculate execution, sphilr

:+fav: I bow to your skill good sir :)
Yeah, "Paladin of the Lost Hour"... Danny Kaye starred (in his last screen performance, I think) in a televised adaptation of that story on a short lived series called The New Twilight Zone (Ellison himself provided the screenplay)...
Give "Deathbird Stories" and "Mefisto In Onyx" a spin, see what you think...
Thanks, Hal; your pencil drawings are EXTREMELY good!
Wow .. I love this! It's so detailed and realistic. I love all of your work!! You're awesome. I'm glad I found you ..this is going into my favorites :D
You're a big part of the reason that stumbling on to this Web site has been so full of real joy, poOp; and I'm very glad you like the work (have I mentioned that I love yours?)...
This is awesome, was that your idea?

Not really; a friend of mine had a dream that he'd given a number of different women roses as a gesture of affection, only to discover that the roses had all turned in to babies over night... one of the all time great dreams. I asked if he'd mind if I tried to visualize it somehow, and he said please do. It was also the cheapest thing I had on hand at the time to do reproductions (black and white xeroxes) of, so I made copies and sent them out to art directors in Denver; I had one left over and, on an impulse, sent it out to Harlan Ellison c/o his publisher, just because I'd always loved his work.
Didn't hear anything from any Denver art directors, but I heard from Harlan in what for me was a really big way.
And my friend with the dream never gets any credit for any of this...
