Mostly I'll use a wide little brush and just employ a LOT of repetitions in the strokes...

wow you handle gouache and ink amazingly well, i really like this. It's really quite a beautiful peice. I get a sense of beatuy, sadness and joy all in one. I really want to say more, but i can't put it into words. anyways, a really nice piece
